1951

Ernest V. Sherry was Worshipful Master in 1951. He, too, was a farmer in the Finley area and later operated a grocery business on the old river road until his retirement.

This year, the Grand Master did approve the degree fee to be $75 for the first three degrees. It was also resolved this year that the members in the armed services of the United States have their dues waived while they were serving our country.

By this time the committee was working diligently on the new Masonic Temple, and the members were urged to purchase certificates which were available around the first of this year. By spring, the temple was well on its way and the committee announced that occupancy was not too many months off.

In April of 1951, Blue Lodge cashed in government bonds amounting to $10,139.80 and turned over to the building committee.

The Temple Association reported that the rent on the new temple would be $100 per month. In June, the membership voted to levy an assessment of $10 per member to help defray the cost of the new temple.

Although there is no actual account of the dedication of the new temple, apparently the big event took place in July as the July 18, 1951, meeting's minutes state that thank-you's should be sent to all those who so kindly sent flowers which helped to beautify our new temple during the dedication ceremonies.

It was the pleasure of Ernest Sherry, Worshipful Master, to hold the first Past Master's night in the new temple. Back in those days, even on special nights like Past Masters, there was degree work.
