J. R. Ayers was the 38th Worshipful Master of Lodge #153 F & AM, was born in Texas in 1879 and came to Kennewick from Bonners, Idaho in 1910. He was one of the early day homesteaders in the Finley area and ran a sheep and cattle ranch in the east end of Benton County. He was a 50-year member.

By unanimous vote, Hanford Lodge #256 was consolidated with Kennewick Lodge #153 as of May 21, 1943.
